Reviewed polynomials - adding, subtracting, multiplying, factoring - for chapter 8 TEST ON FRIDAY. Answer key (pdf) for test review worksheet is below.
Reviewed factoring x^2+bx+c (a quadratic trinomial that can be factored into two linear binomials) and began factoring ax^2+bx+c (a quadratic trinomial WITH A LEADING COEFFICIENT that can be factored into two linear binomials). Find factors of "a" times "c" that have a sum of "b", then REWRITE the middle (linear) term as the sum of two linear terms, factor by grouping the left two terms and the right two terms, then finish by rewriting the distribution expression as the product of two binomial factors.
Homework: page page 520, #8-26 evens Took chapter 8.1-8.3 quiz (polynomial addition, subtraction, multiplication & factoring) and began factoring x^2+bx+c (a quadratic trinomial that can be factored into two linear binomials). By beginning with the understanding that "x squared" factors into "x" times "x", next find the factors of "c" that have a sum of "b" to finish writing the binomials.
Homework: page 515, #11-43 odds Continued reviewing polynomial multiplication in general, and binomial multiplication (FOIL) in particular. Quiz on polynomial addition, subtraction, multiplication and factoring TOMORROW.
Homework: page 502, #29; page 507, #9-18, page 536, #7-15 odds Introduced and practiced multiplication of binomials using distribution and the FOIL method (multiplying the FIRST, OUTER, INNER & LAST terms, then combining any like terms).
Homework: page 501, #9-41 odds (skip #29 & 35) Continued with polynomials, this time demonstrating how to multiply and factor them, with emphasis on naming/classifying and writing polynomials in standard form.
Homework: page 495, #9-26 & 29-31 Started chapter 8 by introducing polynomials, relevant terminology and ways of classifying them, then practiced adding and subtracting those polynomials.
Homework: page 489, #9-47 odds |
